As is accustomed in this region of the internet we are always planning for our next automotive venture. We gaze far into the future and wind up either with nothing or something not on our radar until the day we purchase it.
With that said I’ve started a new job as a diesel mechanic apprentice working on concrete trucks for a pretty large company called Vulcan.
The pay is great and training is six months. The class is a group of 4 and they hope to bring all of us on board. So if all goes as planned I’ll have a decent down payment to reward myself on that achievement.
Now here is my small dilemma.
I’m a single guy in his late 20s and I’ve yet to own a selfish car aka a coupe. There are a number of options out there but I’m trying to stay in the $15k and lower range. I’m starting to take a liking to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and have always loved the Accord Coupe. The FR-S is tossed in the mix along with the RX-8 to which I have undying longing for. And then I have to toss in a ringer that fits in with none of the prior choices at all....the HHR SS. Don’t know why but that car never gets off my radar. Definitely not a selfish car but man do I love it.
Open to many comments and suggestions as I begin collecting my pennies.
EDIT: Forgot to add Jaguar XJR into the mix.

Fiesta ST. Consider it. Drive one. Good used ones should be in your price-bracket. Seriously, drive one before you dismiss it.

I was in a similar situation a year and a bit ago and I went for an older S600. Totally not a typical car for a late 20's guy but hey, you gotta drive what you want to...

I’ve driven the Focus. Have yet to try the FiST. I’ll have to go past CarMax and give it a try. I was trying to go for a more eligible bachelor look with most of the choices but I think the HHR opened up a door to all the possibilities lol. The one great thing about leaving on good terms with a used car dealer is that I can get them to get me a car from the dealer auction and just pay them the transportation fee plus a little on top. Get a nice car at a superb price.

An older car like that will be down the line. That’s a car that I’ll bring out on special occasions or just want to go on a cruise. I’m shooting for a 1965 Continental. Convertible if I can but I’ll go for the hard top as well.

More whores leads to less money.
Less money leads to less whores.
Less whores leads to lonely nights in the shower.
With that in mind I think I’ll go with the coupe.

True, although in all seriousness. If you can get a 4 door vs coupe I’d do it. Coupes are annoying in parking lots because you have to be very conscious of how much room you have.

If a Jag XJR is in the mix, but you want a coupe, it sounds like you need an XK8 convertible or an XKR coupe.

Have had sedans all my life other than two hatchbacks. I want to get my last “Hoorah” in before adult responsibilities like a wife and kids creep in.

I think it’s pretty easy to figure out what I like (Bangle butt 6-Series) and fast luxury. Who says fun can’t be slightly practical?

I’ll consider those. The XJ just looks so much better to me than its 2 door kin.

That CTS-V is a very nice add in and thank you so very much for reminding me about the 1 Series. The only modern BMW I’d gladly purchase. 135i is great and all but goodness they always have issues. Get me a 128i with the sport and cold weather package and I’d be in heaven.

The Fiesta ST is better than the Focus ST in every way except interior volume and straight-line acceleration/speed. It’s also just so much freaken’ fun. Even without breaking too many laws the FieSTa can brighten up your day.

15k gets you very close to 996 range, espicially since you should have the ability to do most maintenance and upkeep without having to pay somone else labor.

It reminds me of the early 90s Civic Si hatch. I love that I see so many different types of people driving the Fiesta. Seems to speak to everyone. You’re making a good case for this little runabout.

You can get a really nice unmolested 350Z with stick for $10k or less, more HP than the FR-S and waaaaaaaaaaaay more reliable than a RX-8
And they look awesome in blue, just sayin ;)

Not really a Porsche person. For the most part I keep away from German cars unless they come with a warranty. My 03 X5 shattered my pockets.

Lost my job and had to pick between the M3 and the 128, since the M3 was paid for and the 1 wasn’t and the M3 was the car I always wanted, I kept the M3 and sold the 1.

I believe he lost his job and has to sell his dream car (M3) or the 128i. So he sold his 128i.
Unless I’m thinking of one of our other M3 owners...

I mean is only a 2004, so it’s not a classic per se, but is looking very to have something cool and old to take out.

If you don’t find the XKR coupe sexy as hell, you need to get to a doctor and make sure your heart is still beating.
